Iban Long House, Batu Niah Sarawak
March 27th, 2008 | 06:47:40 pm | posted by ahkwongFinally, this is the last part for my premium eat play Batu Niah, Sarawak trip. I ate a lot, travel a lot, learn & expose lot of new stuff, for me. This part consist some mirror of small town life, which is stable, peace and slow, compare with city life. You can enjoy a lot here, no night life here, and simple. Therefore, Batu Niah people very kind for everyone. Maybe just because this town have around 4-5 street only?

Seriously, there was quite boring here as no shopping complex, no cyber cafe, no spa, less entertainment except watch TV home or surf net. You know, then can get FREE international channel intead of paying to Astro every month, even they can enjoy the LATEST oversea drama & shows! It was open secret for everyone there, unlike we pay so much for Astro. If you like Nature, you like activities, if you love live in peace, Batu Niah is your paradise, and your best choice compare with Kampar, Ipoh.

Later, we have journey to visit Iban long house. Yes, Sarawak Iban long house. And, the Iban long house now different with the previous, and out of my imagination 1. They have water supply and electricity supply now, some nothing different with those double story houses! I though can watch some traditional dance or performance, but too bad most of them out to work already.

Little introduction on Iban long house:
These thriving communities, whole villages under one roof, are not relics from the days of tribal warfare - they are the preferred way of life for a large percentage of Sarawak’s rural people, particularly the Iban, the Bidayuh and the Orang Ulu.
Nowadays most longhouse dwellers are hard working farmers, and wear practical modern clothing for work and leisure. However, if you visit as part of an organized tour group, they will take great pride in wearing their traditional costumes and regalia and performing elaborate dances and welcoming rituals for their visitors.

Let me think what should be next…
